Lloyd Surgenor names Samaritans as Mayor's Charity of the Year 2009-10
Samaritans are most grateful to Lloyd Surgenor for naming them as one of the four charities which will benefit from the council's fundraising efforts during his period of office as Mayor of Cheltenham.
The official inauguration ceremony took place at Cheltenham Town Hall on 19 May 2009 when the outgoing mayor, Councillor Robin MacDonald, handed over his chain of office.
At the ceremony Councillor Surgenor named the Cheltenham Alzheimer's Society, Cheltenham Samaritans, Maggie's Cotswolds and the Cheltenham Sea Cadets as the four charities to benefit from Cheltenham Town Council's fundraising efforts. Volunteers from Cheltenham Samaritans were present at the inauguration to raise funds on behalf of the Mayor's Charity and to explain the invaluable support that this emotional health chairity has provided to the citizens of Cheltenham and the surrounding district, 365 days a year, for the last forty-five years.
