Cheltenham Samaritans will be offering emotional support on Christmas Day.

23 December 2009

Samaritans volunteers will be offering an understanding ear to people in crisis this Christmas.

When most of us are opening presents or preparing the Christmas lunch, volunteers will be heading to the Samaritans' Cheltenham office, in Back Albert Place, to spend the morning manning the phone and meeting any ‘face to face’ callers who visit the branch.

'At Christmas the emphasis is all about families getting together but it can be an incredibly lonely time for some people,' said a 58 year old volunteer, from Winchcombe, who regularly chooses to sign up for  one of the Samaritans' Christmas Day shifts.

Help Cheltenham Samaritans to improve further its service

16 April 2009

Cheltenham Samaritans would really like to hear the views of people who have contacted them by phone or email so that they can further improve the service to their callers.

The confidential nature of the service, provided by this emotional support charity, means that their volunteers rarely receive feedback from callers regarding their experience of contact and how they feel it has helped them, or could have been more supportive and effective.

To provide this feedback, Samaritans has commissioned a national evaluation of its phone and email support services by independent researchers at Nottingham University. All information gathered will be treated in strict confidence and used to improve further the support given to future callers to Samaritans.
